Anyone familiar with UK mobile broadband should know that the low cost pricing is only applicable within the UK only. For outside the UK, the roaming data charges are extremely high and expensive. When you are planning to travel abroad and use your mobile broadband service, it is always advisable to check your mobile broadband operator beforehand to avoid too much of surprises in your bill.
Recently one of Vodafone customer, Will Pierce, received a big surprise of £21,716 bill when he used his mobile broadband while on holiday in Meribel. According to Mr Pierce, there is no any indication or warning of the exceeding limits when he login. He was even more amazed with Vodafone to allow this sort of thing to be happened without suspecting something might be went wrong.
In facts, the issue of “bill shock” is not an uncommon thing. Many of the UK mobile broadband providers are still failing to inform their customers about their package limitation. However, 3 mobile, managed to solve this issue by restricting their mobile broadband usage outside the UK.
Ofcom is currently meeting with UK mobile broadband operators to resolve this issue, no specific details are given in the meantime. However as for Mr Pierce, Vodafone are happy to waive his bill in full, which is really a big relieve.
