What is mobile broadband?

Mobile broadband is the latest technology that allows users to connect to the internet, regardless of wherever they are, whether they are at home or even abroad. As similar to mobile phone, mobile broadband uses SIM card to access the internet. You need neither a landline nor WiFi hotspot to get connected. All you have to do is plug in an USB modem (or sometime better known as “dongle”) with SIM card inside it and you are really to go. Just like the mobile phone, the USB modem uses the mobile networks to connect to the internet.

Advantages of mobile broadband are huge, some of them are:

  • Their price can be quite attractive and competitive; you can easily get connected from only £10 a month.
  • Mobile broadband is convenience and easy to use. Great for anyone who are on the move or get connected while out meeting friends. You can access to the internet wherever and whenever you wants.
  • With mobile broadband, you don’t need to worry with cables, Ethernet connection or modem as in the landline. Because its uses it very own portable USB modem that plug in directly to your laptop, which make it a completely hassle-free internet access.
  • The lightweight USB modems are tiny and sensible – meaning that you can simply put it in your bag or inside your pocket and be ready to connect to the internet wherever you go.

With mobile broadband however, there are still some limitations such as:

  • Restriction on the amount of data you can download. You normally have monthly download allowance of 1GB, 3GB or 10GB, depending on the type of packages you sign in.
  • Mobile broadband is not as fast as home landline broadband service.
